José Medeiros da Silva has a PhD in Political Science from the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, and has been a professor, since 2015, at the Zhejiang University of International Studies, in Hangzhou. He has a degree in Literature from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (1992) and a master’s degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP) in Communication and Semiotics (1996). He taught Portuguese at the Xi’an University of International Studies and received his doctorate from USP with a thesis on the political aspects of the peasant question in China. He received the “Sanqin” Friendship Award from the government of Shaanxi Province, in recognition of his contribution to the social, economic, scientific and cultural development of the province. He worked at the Hebei Institute of Communication, in Shijiazhuang, being one of the founders of the Portuguese Language Course, and also at China International Radio, in Beijing. He also participated in the team translating President Xi Jinping’s book “The Governance of China” into Portuguese. In recent years, he has focused his research on Brazil-China relations.
