Carlos Alberto Ávila Araújo is PhD in Information Science from UFMG, with post-doctorate from the University of Porto, Portugal (2011) and the University of Salamanca, Spain (2019). He was president of the Association for Education and Research in Information Science of Iberoamerica and the Caribbean – EDICIC (2016-2021). He was vice-president of ANCIB – National Association for Research in Information Science (2016-2018). He was a member of the board of Abecin (2011-2014). He was Deputy Editor of the magazine Perspectivas em Ciência da Informação from 2007 to 2011 and from 2013 and 2015. He was part of the Committee for the creation of the Archiveology (2008) and Museology (2009) courses at UFMG. Works in the areas of Information Science Epistemology; Social, cultural and political dimensions of information; Information User Studies; Information Practices; Disinformation, infodemic and post-truth.
